Material Safety Data Sheets
There are several options for satisfying the IACUC requirement of having MSDS resources readily available for a
semi-annual IACUC inspection. Here are the options, prioritized in preferred order, any of which would satisfy the
requirement to have these resources readily available:
1. A binder with hard copies of all materials used in the lab.
2. Electronic versions of each MSDS (.pdf) downloaded onto a central lab computer.
3. Website access to each MSDS for materials used in the lab.
One option that is available is to go to www.MSDS.com and register,
either individually or as a lab in order to be able to download any MSDS your lab needs. There is a limit of 5 MSDS
free downloads. After that you need to pay according to the quantity that you need.
Another option is to look up each manufacturer and then locate the product MSDS on their websites. These companies
are required to communicate this information, so you should be able to find all of them electronically.
Visit with KU's Environmental Health and Safety Office if you are unsure or are unable to locate MSDS materials.
Downloading your MSDS to a computer in your lab ensures that these pages are available for IACUC inspections of your areas.
It also prevents your reliance on the internet connection to prove these resources are available quickly.
