Kansas Space Grant Consortium to host national meeting in Wichita Oct. 22-26

LAWRENCE -- The KU-led Kansas Space Grant Consortium will host a National Council of Space Grant Directors meeting Oct. 22 through 26 in Wichita.

The convention is the annual fall meeting of the National Council of Space Grant Directors in Wichita, the "Air Capital of the World." An estimated 200 attendees will arrive from Space Grant consortia in the 50 United States, plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Participants will tour various central Kansas sites, including the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson and the Cessna and Beech/Raytheon facilities in Wichita.

The KSGC includes all six regents universities, Haskell Indian Nations University, the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center and Raytheon Aircraft Co. The consortium is funded by NASA. Formed in 1991, the KSGC is a member of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program, a network of 52 Space Grant consortia funded by NASA. The KSGC director is David R. Downing, KU professor of aerospace engineering. Rex Hargis is the program manager; assistant program manager Sue Suhler also serves as the event coordinator. Further conference and KSGC information is available at www.NASAinKansas.org.
