LAWRENCE - This summer, 49 University of Kansas undergraduate students will be working on research projects funded by awards for undergraduate research through KU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Ten students each received J. Michael Young Undergraduate Research Awards of $1,320, given to the top 10 proposals from students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Thirty-eight students received $1,100 each for Undergraduate Research Awards.
J. Michael Young Awards winners are Roshan Abraham, Lenexa junior; Kellis Bayless, Lawrence senior; Adrian Berry, Lawrence senior; Mark Bradshaw, Walnut senior; Laurelin Evanhoe, Derby senior; Laura Ford, Watertown, S.D. senior; Rebekah Moses, Great Bend junior; Ann Talleur, Lawrence senior; Christina Warinner, Overland Park junior; and Heather Wilhelm, Hiawatha senior.
The awards are from special funds made available by the College, by the Office of the Provost and by KU's General Research Fund. The purpose of the awards is to support original, independent research by undergraduates from the Lawrence campus. The awards are administered by KU's University Honors Program.
Selection criteria included the student's academic record, ability to complete the proposed research project, the project's potential contribution to knowledge and the educational value of the research to the student. Applicants also provided recommendations from faculty sponsors and other faculty members familiar with their work and proposals.
